What does Fair Trade mean?

I suppose by now everyone has noticed the words “Fair Trade” on certain food packages and clothing labels. There are a few different “Fair Trade” organizations but no officially official definition for the words that I know of. The basic tenets of Fair Trade is to support a trading partnership that seeks greater equity in international trade. This contributes to sustainable economic development in world areas that have populations of marginalized producers and workers. Economic fairness from far-away farms all the way to your shopping cart, products that bear the “Fair Trade” label come from producers and workers who are justly compensated. The Fair Trade model also requires protection of local ecosystems for sustainable agriculture. Fair Trade also encourages farmers to practice organic agriculture for worker safety, cleaner environments and healthier consumers.

When everyone is treated fairly, things are a good deal all around.
