Watermelon juice is where it’s at!

Why do some athletes drink watermelon juice after working out? Because it relieves muscle soreness, that’s why! Not only that, but if you drink it before a workout it increases overall performance. Watermelon juice just got the scientific backing for its reputation to relieve post-exercise muscle soreness and enhance athletic performance, according to a new report in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. The study attributes most of watermelon’s effectiveness to the amino acid L-citrulline. Of course, watermelon juice is also packed with antioxidant properties and increases muscle protein during performance. The study tested unpasteurized watermelon juice against an L-citrulline enriched juice and a placebo drink. Of course, the natural juice had the best results.
