Walking into things

Distracted walking logs more ER injuries per mile than distracted driving. Texting and walking brings sometimes not-so-comical bumping into walls, falling down stairs, tripping over clutter and even stepping into traffic. Did you know that this issue is so common in London that special bumpers were placed on light posts to prevent walking texters from slamming into them? Walking is actually highly complex activity involving over two hundred muscles at once. Talking on the phone can be distracting enough but texting while walking takes both your mind and your eyes off of the path in front of you. Thousands of texting pedestrians are treated in emergency rooms across the nation each year – that is, counting only the ones who aren’t too embarrassed to admit to it.
