What’s next in GMO foods? How about an apple that won’t turn brown after you cut it open? Now scientists have produced an apple that does not brown to lure consumers looking for a more appealing apple. The company is confident that food companies will jump on board to save the cost of spraying sliced apples with an antioxidant chemical that drives up packaging costs by up to 40%. This novel genetically engineered, non-browning apple would supposedly cut costs by 30%. But what about the scientific fact that with the introduction of GMOs to the food supply correlates with a rise in food allergies and chronic disease? The genetically engineered non-browning apple has already been introduced to Granny Smith and Golden Delicious varieties.
