Short People

Remember that old Randy Newman song “Short People got no reason to live”? Well Randy Newman got it wrong! Short people actually live longer than tall people – at least in Japanese men, according to the latest research. Taking two groups, 5-2 and shorter, and 5-4 and taller, the University of Hawaii found that people 5-2 and shorter lived the longest. In fact, the taller the person, the shorter they lived on average. What they discovered is that shorter men were more likely to have a protective form of the longevity gene, leading to smaller body size during early development along with a longer lifespan. Interestingly, shorter men also had generally better blood insulin levels and less cancer. Bottom line, no matter how tall you are, a healthy lifestyle will definitely keep you around and kicking longer. Trash your diet and lifestyle and you can definitely turn that gene off.
