Oral contraceptives reduce cancer mortality rates – maybe

Not a chill pill

Anyone read the headlines about the latest Big Pharma miracle? It seems that oral contraceptives are lowering the death rate from ovarian cancer. If you think it sounds just a little too darn good to be true, you’re right… What they are shouting about is that (maybe, and just possibly) because women are taking more chemical contraceptives than before, death by ovarian cancer rates have dropped by a whopping (but relative percentage of) 16%! Uh, any statistician knows that relative rates and numbers are not equal to real numbers folks. What those skewed numbers actually mean is that the occurrence of this kind of cancer death has dropped by about 1 death per every 111,000 women – over the last few decades. Not really something to brag about when oral contraceptives cause nasty side-effects in about 1 out of 5 women – which include severe depression leading to suicide, collapse, stroke, heart attack, and death among many other things. Heck, thrombosis in oral contraceptive users leaps by up to 500% bringing its own brand of misery, blood clots, strokes, heart attacks, blindness, brain damage, and death in ALL ages of users. Did you know that in 2013 Bayer alone paid out over 1 billion smackers to settle lawsuits over death and carnage caused by Yaz and Yasmin? This Big Pharma “success report” was all smoke and mirrors peeps and I’m mad about it.
