New FDA antibiotic use policy has no teeth

So, the FDA (Foot Dragging and Alibis) has a new policy out to curb the over-use of antibiotics. The problem is that it is 100% voluntary and will only slightly alter the labels of veterinary antibiotics. Yah, that’ll teach them farmers… Factory farms use antibiotics to fatten up their animals, but now the animal farms are only supposed to use antibiotics to treat disease or prevent disease. Not only is this worthless advice, but there’s no FDA enforcement, NO penalties and massive loopholes. The fact is that antibiotics work so well to fatten up animals that some 70% of the US antibiotic use is used on farm animals. This makes these farms the leading source of drug-resistant germs attacking humans today. Antibiotic use makes for sick and swollen animals – we are getting sicker and sicker eating sick food.
