More organic foods at Walmart

Walmart is coming on strong in the organic foods market by promoting its Wild Oats organic products that will undercut brand-name organic competitors by at least 25%. Walmart will begin stocking these products in about half of its stores over the next few months to help insure that they can maintain the supply before stocking the rest of their stores. This move by the nation’s largest retailer and grocer will send shock waves through the organic markets where everybody and their dog are scrambling into the markets. Walmart plans to price these organic products similar to nonorganic brand-name goods. Market research has found that a whopping 91% of consumers said they would buy “affordable” organic products over conventional ones. In 2012, organic food brought some $29 billion in US sales – nearly 4 times the amount from just one decade earlier.
