Killed by his old friend – smoking

The Marlboro man recently died of smoking related problems. The rugged old Eric Lawson in cigarette ads during the late 1970s was 72 years old. The final blow was respiratory failure due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Lawson started smoking at the young age of 14. By his late 30s he became a smoker’s icon in cigarette commercials. Interestingly, Lawson later appeared in an anti-smoking commercial to discuss the negative effects of smoking – even while he was still smoking! He continued the habit until he was diagnosed with COPD. Other actors who have pitched Marlboro cigarettes have also died of smoking-related diseases.
