Hookah hocus pocus

Hookah is billed as a casual, non-addictive, relaxing activity that is way less bad for you than smoking cigarettes. The simple fact is that hookah smoke actually has the same carcinogens and other toxins as cigarette smoke – and more of them. According to the CDC, 20% of male high school senior and 17% of female seniors smoke hookah. Up to 40% of college students also smoke hookah. Hookah smoking is actually worse than regular smoking when you add charcoal carbon monoxide and carcinogens on top of the usual chemicals in tobacco smoking. One cigarette equals about 600 ml of inhaled smoke while one hour of hookah is some 90,000 ml of inhaled smoke! This dramatically ups the risk of tobacco-related cancers from smoking hookah.
