Homebirth as safe as hospital birth

Homebirth safety, including midwife care during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum is equal to allopathic medical care while being healthier and is less costly. This includes women with high-risk pregnancies. Of course, the proportion of caesarean sections was lower in the homebirth group along with the elective caesarean numbers, instrumental births and epidural use. Unassisted vaginal births were significantly higher for homebirths. The primary outcomes for the newborns were similar between the groups while women under midwife care were significantly more likely to have spontaneous labor onset and less likely to have labor induction than women with standard care. The best thing was that a higher proportion of mothers from the homebirth group also breastfed their babies.
