Gimme chocolate!

Dark chocolate benefits have been known about for hundreds of years. But why it is so good for you has been hidden from us until now. The real spark in chocolate benefits comes from a boost in friendly bacteria in the gut that ferments it into major anti-inflammatory compounds that are great for health. Bifidobacterium and lactic acid bacteria are two of these good bacteria that thrive on chocolate. The cocoa powder in chocolate contains compounds such as catechin and epicatechin which are not easily digested and absorbed – that is, until they reach the colon and the good guy bacteria take over. The fiber in cocoa is also a prebiotic that feeds the good bacteria so it can  increases and out-compete the bad guys. You can multiply the benefits of dark chocolate when you combine it with solid fruits like pomegranates and acai.

Oh baby!
