Did you know that liking Cheerios on Facebook or by downloading a General Mills coupon means that you cannot sue General Mills for any reason now? General Mills, Bisquick, Betty Crocker and other companies are rushing to add language to websites to the effect that you now give up your right to sue the company once you download a coupon, join them in the social medias, or simply enter a company-sponsored sweepstakes or contest. The new language requires any complaints to be resolved through “binding” (email) arbitration. The only notice you will get about surrendering your legal rights to sue is the small print on the home pages that tells you the company “updated our Privacy Policy.” So, if the company is neglectful, cuts corners, poisons a host of people nobody can sue them.
