Breast cancer in the brain

How breast cancer becomes brain cancer: When a malignant breast cancer cell floats around in the bloodstream to cross into the brain, the cancer cell adapts to exploit the brain’s resources by assuming similar properties to brain cells. Breast cancer cells can deceive the immune system by blending in with the neurons, neurotransmitters, other proteins, cells and chemicals. Brain tumors biopsies that show breast cancer origins use the brain’s most abundant chemical for fuel; the neurochemical GABA, which is a neurotransmitter used for communication between neurons. Metastasized cells express a receptor for GABA to masquerade as neurons – completely undetected by the immune system.
