Aluminum-free baking soda?

Baking soda generally does not contain aluminum these days, whether or not the package says “aluminum-free.” If you buy “pure baking soda” it is most likely aluminum free anyhow. There is a big difference between the brand labelled “aluminum free” and the unmarked brands though. Arm & Hammer baking soda, along with other brands, use a chemical process to make their baking soda by turning a certain ore into soda ash and then infusing it with carbon dioxide to produce baking soda. I’m not convinced either way at this point as to how good or bad this processed baking soda is for human consumption. Bob’s Red Mill and Frontier brands however, dig their baking soda straight out of the ground – in its natural state. In light of this, I can buy the big bag of Arm & Hammer baking soda for general use, but buy the naturally mined stuff for bodily uses.

This is how they harvest naturally occurring baking soda.
