A party on your toothbrush

If you put your toothbrush under a microscope you just might find some unwelcomed Staphylococci, coliforms, pseudomonads, yeasts, and even intestinal bacteria throwing a party on it. But those germs probably got there from your mouth because the oral cavity is home to hundreds of different types of microorganisms that transfer to the toothbrush when you use it. Do you store your toothbrush in the bathroom? Every time you flush the potty you send a vapor plume through the bathroom and further expose the toothbrush to fecal bacteria as well. Mythbusters even did a recent show telling these facts and showing how filthy even a new toothbrush can be. You may want to do what we do at my house. We store our toothbrushes in a container with pure grain alcohol mixed with xylitol, peppermint oil and 50% water. It wears the toothbrush out faster but we don’t care!
